Speaker Bios

• D. Brian Kacedon is a partner in Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP’s Washington, DC office. He is the leader of the firm’s mechanical practice. A recognized authority in IP transactions, Brian has drafted and negotiated hundreds of agreements across all technologies and is designated as a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP). He has also successfully litigated multiple lawsuits and arbitrations based on his extensive transactional experience. In his transactional practice, Brian assists clients in conducting market assessments for their patents, conducts licensing negotiations, drafts licensing agreements, and participates in related litigations. He routinely negotiates and drafts complex license and collaboration agreements for both small and large pharmaceutical companies, many with total payments of hundreds of millions of dollars. Brian’s experience includes setting up and directing international patent licensing and enforcement programs, including one that resulted in more than 500 license agreements. He holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law.

• Denise Main, Ph.D., is a partner in Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP’s Washington, DC office. She focuses her practice on U.S. district court and appellate litigation, with particular experience related to the Hatch-Waxman Act governing the approval of pharmaceutical drugs. Denise has handled matters and advised clients involving a wide array of technologies including pharmaceutical products, cell and gene therapies, monoclonal antibody therapies, cosmetics, hair dyes, pesticides, packaging materials, polymeric materials, and drug delivery systems. Denise also assists clients with complex licensing matters. Denise holds a doctorate in organic chemistry from University of Florida and a J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law.

• Jeanette M. Roorda is an attorney in Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP’s Washington, DC office. She focuses on complex patent and trade secret litigation related to the pharmaceutical and chemical fields. Jeanette participates in litigation proceedings at the district court level, in appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and in Section 337 proceedings before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). She has experience representing pharmaceutical patent holders in Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) and 505(b)(2) Application litigations arising under the Hatch-Waxman Act as well as biosimilar litigations arising under the Biologics Price Competition and Innovation Act (BPCIA). She holds a J.D. (cum laude) from University of Florida College of Law.

• Kathryn R. Judson is an attorney in Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP’s Atlanta office. She focuses on complex patent litigation involving pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and biotechnology. Her practice includes Hatch-Waxman litigation related to Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDA) and post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Kathryn also has experience with renewable energy technologies. She holds a J.D. from Florida State University College of Law.
