Scientists Trained AI To Detect Faces in Pain. In Goats.

UF researchers fed data on goats' facial expressions into an AI-based model, enabling it to distinguish goats in pain by their faces alone. With data on more goats and other animal species, such AI models may help clinicians effectively treat pain in patients who cannot communicate verbally.

UF Awarded NIH Funding for New Malaria Research Center

A five-year, $3.6 million award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, aims to turn the tide through a new International Center of Excellence for Malaria Research led by University of Florida scientist Rhoel Dinglasan, Ph.D., M.P.H., and partners in Africa.
