As is well known, taking a therapeutic product from research and development (R&D) to commercial approval is costly, and requires an estimated two billion dollars in investment. To recoup and see a return on investment, drug developers look to various exclusivities in order to realize such returns. Lately, the role of patents and regulatory exclusivities in pricing drugs is in the news. How do drug developers use the patent and regulatory laws to price drugs and see a return on investment? How do these two exclusivity frameworks intersect along the drug development pathway even at the earliest stages? In this seminar, attorneys Jeff Hsi and Will Czaplyski will share their insights on the interplay of patent and regulatory frameworks on drug development and their experience working with universities as well as large and small biopharma companies.
Speakers
Jeff Hsi is a Shareholder in Wolf Greenfield’s Pharmaceutical Practice. He holds degrees in Chemistry (BA, Kalamazoo College; MS, Indiana University; and PhD, University of Michigan). Jeff completed his JD at Rutgers Law School.
Will Czaplyski is an Associate in Wolf Greenfield’s Pharmaceutical Practice. He holds a BS and MS in Chemistry from the College of William & Mary and received his PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Will completed his JD at Harvard Law School.
