Tech Tuesday: UF Health’s ShandsCair’s Latest Advancement Will Allow Paramedics To Provide Life-Saving Care With Increased Safety

Heath Schmidt, Health Hitch

In this week’s Tech Tuesday, UF Innovate’s host Bethany Gaffey interviews Heath Schmidt, EMT-P, CCP, of UF Health’s ShandsCair team in Gainesville. Schmidt has developed the Heath Hitch, an airway securement device designed to ensure stable breathing tube placement even in the most complex and trauma-intensive transport scenarios. This advancement allows paramedics to provide life-saving care with increased confidence and safety.

“When it comes to saving lives, every breath counts. We’re here at the ShandsCair Gatorport to learn more. Heath, tell us more about who you are and what you do,” said Gaffey.

“I’m Heath Schmidt. I’m a critical care flight paramedic with UF Health. My job responsibility is to bring a team approach and bring UF Health expert care to the patient’s bedside. We do the car wrecks, the major traumas, but we also do critical care inter-facility transports all the way up to ECMO and balloon pump transports, which are pretty significant transports for our program,” said Heath Schmidt, critical care flight paramedic with UF Health.
