Tech Tuesday: The College of Dentistry at the University of Florida Research Ways To Detect Cancer by Testing Saliva
In this week’s Tech Tuesday, our host Bethany Gaffey interviews Dr. Josephine Esquivel-Upshaw from the College of Dentistry at the University of Florida. Dr. Esquivel-Upshaw, Dr. Ren, and their research teams are developing and testing a biosensor capable of detecting cancer through a saliva test.
“What if you could detect cancer with just a simple saliva test? We’re here at UF’s College of Dentistry to learn more. Josephine, tell us more about who you are and what you do,” said Gaffey.
“Hey, Bethany, I’m a professor at the College of Dentistry, and we developed a biosensor that can actually detect protein biomarkers in saliva, and a lot of these biomarkers can herald the presence of disease. And so that is what we are testing for now,” said Dr. Josephine Esquivel-Upshaw, director and professor in the Division of Prosthodontics at the UF College of Dentistry.
