Tech Tuesday: UF Researcher Introduces a New, Non-Addictive Tool for Patients To Stop Chronic Pain

Dr. Rajesh Khanna, UF McKnight Brain Institute, PATH Collaboratory

In this week’s Tech Tuesday, UF Innovate host Bethany Gaffey interviews Dr. Raj Khanna, an internationally known expert in pain research who recently joined the staff at the University of Florida.

“Imagine a world where we could prescribe pain medications without addictive properties. We’re here at UF’s McKnight Brain Institute to learn more. Dr. Raj Khanna, thank you for joining us. Tell us more about your work here,” said Gaffey.

“Thank you very much. So the work here is really to discover non-opioids for chronic pain, and I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to lead PATh, so the Pain and Addiction Therapeutics Collaboratory. This is a new venture on the campus here in Gainesville, which aims to really bring together people with a like-minded interest in trying to solve this national and international crisis of chronic pain and how to deal with it with drugs that are non-opioid in nature,” said Khanna.

“Why is it important that your solution does not involve opioids or other addictive drugs?” asked Gaffey.
