ASABE names AGROVIEW winner of a 2021 AE50 award
St. Joseph, Michigan. – The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has named AGROVIEW winner of a 2021 AE50 award.
AE50 awards honor the year’s most innovative designs in engineering products or systems for the food and agriculture industries. AGROVIEW is featured in the January/February 2021 special issue of ASABE’s magazine Resource: Engineering & Technology for a Sustainable World.
“We are pleased and honored to receive this award,” said Matt Donovan, CEO of Agriculture Intelligence, Inc. “Dr. Ampatzidis’ breakthrough work in artificial intelligence and machine vision, as well as a focus on full automation in the cloud, really sets the Agroview platform as the standard for plant and gaps counting, plant stress detection and management, and full-field nutrient analysis.”
Dr. Yiannis Ampatzidis is the inventor of AGROVIEW and a professor at the University of Florida College of Agriculture.
“As powerful and useful as the current technology is, it’s just the beginning,” Ampatzidis says of AGROVIEW. “For example, generating application maps for use with variable rate sprayers and fertilizers delivers precision applications in innovative ways for specialty crops.
“It’s not only major cost reductions, improving fruit quality and quantity,” he said, “but it is a step toward major improvements to long-term sustainability.”
Agriculture Intelligence is a resident client of UF Innovate | The Hub, a business incubator associated with UF that offers a place and a program to support new companies and help them thrive.
“Matt Donovan is a very successful serial entrepreneur in Gainesville,” said Mark Long, Director of Innovation Services at UF. “We at UF Innovate | The Hub are not surprised to hear that his company, Agriculture Intelligence, is winning multiple awards.”
Companies from around the world submit entries to the annual AE50 competition, and a panel of international engineering experts select up to 50 of the best products. The judges select innovative products that will best advance engineering for the food and agriculture industries.
The AE50 awards program emphasizes the role of new products and systems in bringing advanced technology to the marketplace. These engineering developments help farmers, food processors and equipment manufacturers increase efficiency, enhance quality, improve safety, and increase profits.
