End the Stigma and Start the Conversation About Men’s Mental Health
Mental health issues are nothing to be ashamed of and nothing to hide. Quite the opposite, in fact. They are to be discussed and dealt with directly so that the person suffering from depression, anxiety, addiction, and other maladies of the mind can be ameliorated and have his or her proper health restored.
According to Dr. Sherry Benton, a therapist with more than 25 years of experience working with patients and founder of UF startup TAO Connect, an online therapy program developed to address matters related to depression, anxiety and other issues, the reason many men suffer in silence is due to a culturally prescribed toxic masculinity that prevents men from seeking the help they may desperately need.
The Manual spoke to Dr. Benton about men and their well-being.
