Essential Validation Services Tests Oils in Booming Market (The Gainesville Sun)
Inside the Chemistry Lab Building on the University of Florida campus Wednesday, a small laboratory room smelled like a mix of lavender and citrus.
It smells like that most days, according to those who use it.
The reason?
More than 1,000 vials of essential oil, or natural oils extracted from plants, are tested there for authenticity each year.
Essential Validation Services, which has its offices at UF Innovate’s The Hub, 747 Second Ave., is a third-party independent laboratory that specializes in quality-assurance testing of essential oils, a health product that has quickly boomed into $7 billion- to- $12 billion industry worldwide, said its CEO, Adam Christensen.
Essential Validation Services (EVS) is the first essential oil validation lab in U.S. not affiliated with the industry it serves, he said. It’s been based in Gainesville since October 2016.
