NASA’s Earth Science Technology Office (ESTO) is hosting the Beyond the Algorithm Challenge: Novel Computing Architectures for Flood Analysis, an opportunity for innovators to transform the future of Earth science computing. This challenge invites participants to propose unconventional or transformative computing solutions, such as quantum computing, neuromorphic computing, in-memory computing, or quantum machine learning, that can rapidly and accurately improve flood analysis capabilities.

This opportunity is open to researchers, technologists, startups, and experts in computing and Earth sciences who are ready to push the boundaries of how we solve complex environmental problems. Up to 10 finalists will be invited to pitch their solutions at an in-person event in September 2025, and up to 3 winners will be awarded $100,000 each.
