UF INNOVATE | PATHWAYS IN-PERSON WORKSHOP

Do you know how to protect your ideas and create value through intellectual property (IP)? This hands-on training, open to all UF innovators, will provide the intellectual property basics to help you create impact through innovation. It includes breakout small group discussions and expert advice from the IP attorneys at Wolf Greenfield and the team at UF Innovate.

 

UF innovators who register and attend both days of the workshop will receive a certificate of completion at the end.

You will learn:

  • Why intellectual property is important in business and startup formation
  • Types of IP protection (patents, copyrights, trademarks) available and the business relevance of each
  • The patent process, public disclosure, and how to read patent claims
  • IP agreements and ways of protecting inventions in the absence of patents
  • Basic licensing agreement terms, patent landscape searching and analysis, and other commercialization basics
  • IP protection strategies for software/AI/ML innovations and patenting of biotechnology inventions
  • Understanding industry IP strategies
  • Tips from UF Innovate licensing team on invention disclosures, office resources for protecting and licensing your inventions, and spinning out companies

The Boston-based Intellectual property law firm of Wolf Greenfield, which has supported UF Innovate to protect and commercialize intellectual property developed at UF for over 15 years will conduct this in-person workshop over two half days. Register for this workshop, bring your questions, and prepare for new opportunities in the innovation economy.

You will receive a certificate from University of Florida and Wolf Greenfield upon completion.

 

About the Speakers:

Kevin MacDonald is a Shareholder in the Biotechnology Practice at Wolf Greenfield. Kevin holds a BA in Biology from Boston College and a MS in Molecular Biology from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. He received his PhD in Parasitology from McGill University. He completed his JD at Suffolk University Law School.

Zachary Piccolomini is a Shareholder in the Electrical and Computer Technologies Practice at Wolf Greenfield. Zach received a BS in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and completed his JD at Suffolk University Law School.

Jonathan Roses is a Shareholder in the Pharmaceutical Practice at Wolf Greenfield. Jon holds an American Chemical Society Certified BA in Chemistry from Connecticut College and received his JD from Boston College Law School.
