Event Details

The American-Made Large Animal and Solar System Operations (LASSO) Prize, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office, offers $10+ million in cash prizes to U.S.-based individuals and organizations developing cattle agrivoltaics—the co-location of solar photovoltaics (PV) and cattle grazing operations. This initiative aims to reduce land-use conflicts, preserve agricultural land, increase revenues for farmers and ranchers, and support sustainable energy practices.

The competition is open to solar developers, ranchers, farmers, and other stakeholders, including hardware and software manufacturers, researchers, universities, local governments, utilities, and historically underserved producers. Participants must form multi-stakeholder teams to build pilot sites, identify best practices, analyze costs, and explore business models for integrating PV with cattle grazing.

Applications are due on March 6, 2025, by 5:00 PM ET. For more information on the opportunity and to begin your application, please visit the prize webpage
